Requesting postponement income tax return

If you don’t request an extension and fail to file your tax return on time, you risk receiving a fine and a higher provisional tax assessment.

Since it’s impossible for bookkeepers to process all income tax returns before May 1st, we – as is standard – request an extension for all our clients. This extension gives us until May 1st of the following year to submit your tax return. However, we ask you to complete the questionnaire no later than October 31st, 2025, so we have enough time to prepare your return before the new year starts.

Example: We prepare your 2024 Income Tax return

  • Tax year: January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024
  • Regular tax authority deadline: April 30, 2025
  • Deadline to submit your data in The Bookie Webapp: October 31, 2025
  • Extended deadline for tax professionals (with extension): April 30, 2026

Standard extension

If you had an active subscription with The Bookie for the tax year in question, we will automatically request an extension for your return.

If you have a fiscal partner and want us to file their tax return as well, let us know no later than April 30, 2025. We will then also request an extension and authorisation for them.

Late extension

If an extension was not requested (by you or by us) and you receive a letter from the Dutch tax authority (Belastingdienst) after May 1st saying your return hasn’t been submitted: don’t worry. As your bookkeeper, we can still apply for a late extension. If you receive a letter between May 1st and August 31st, 2025, give us a call and we’ll take care of it. The final date for requesting a late extension is September 1st, 2025.
